One Piece: Adventure of Nebulandia

According to an article by the official One Piece website, Fuji TV will air a new One Piece TV special on Dec. 19, to be aired that Saturday evening from 9:00 PM to 11:10 PM (Japan Time).

This original, brand-new One Piece TV special will take place on an “ability suppressing island,” a foggy island in the new world that makes devil fruit users unable to use to their abilities. The main villains of the special will be the Foxy Pirates on a quest for a revenge match after their last encounter with the Straw Hat pirates during the Long Ring Long Land story arc. This time around, three additional members, Kômei, Dôjaku and Kanshô have joined the Foxy Pirates, and against his crew’s wishes, Luffy again accepts the challenge.

Toei Animation’s Hiroyuki Sakurada had this to say:

This year’s winter One Piece special is a completely original story. It’s an action-packed adventure with Luffy playing a big role! While on their way in the New World, suddenly a character with a deep connection to Luffy appears in front of the Straw Hats, he’s the strong antagonist who also appeared in the original One Piece manga: Foxy!

Foxy has come all the way to the New World so he’s become considerably stronger, but this time, the real enemy is the genius tactician “Kômei” who’s come prepared with a cunning plan to completely annihilate the Straw Hats. Look forward to a big battle and big adventure on this surprising island where devil fruits become a weakness!

Also of note, the One Piece TV anime’s first director, Mr. Kônosuke Uda, who obviously knows everything there is to know about what makes One Piece great, will be joining in on this special! I believe he’ll make sure that the characters will shine through in this special.

Atsuhiro Tomioka will pen the script. In addition to his previous work on One Piece, he has also worked on the Inazuma Eleven movie series, and the Pokemon movie series. I’m convinced that he’ll bring us a special filled with a sense of adventure that will make our hearts beat faster than ever before! There’s also going to be special guest voice actors to look forward to! I hope you enjoy!

For the first time ever, we will be bringing you a completely original One Piece special during the winter instead of the usual One Piece specials that come out during the summer. The summer specials are part of the “Episode of” series, but we thought it’d be fun to call the winter specials “Adventure of” — which explains the subtitle we chose. We chose to air this One Piece TV special during the winter because we wanted people to enjoy this together with their families. The One Piece world with its thrilling adventures and the importance of strong bonds between friends wouldn’t work in a live-action adaptation and can only be properly portrayed because it’s animation. This adventure is even enjoyable by those who have only seen One Piece half-way through. The special will also include really amazing shots created by Director Uda for the first time in a very long time. Furthermore, the staff and cast are all putting in everything that they have in making this story, so we hope you’ll watch it.
